You too can indeed learn Bible memory verses! I have always struggled with memorization. In school, eons ago, I would memorize facts before a test but in just a few weeks those facts were mere vapors. I have discovered a Bible memory law that makes learning memory verses a breeze while addition the retention duration. This law consists of three parts: cards, music and review.
Learn Memory Verses Part #1 - Verse Cards
Writing the verses on a verse card is a great tool for retention. The verse card can be enterprise card size or a 3x5 index card. The cards are a nice size to put in a pocket or purse for easy retrieval. Anytime you are waiting in line or waiting to pick up a child or whatever, you can pull out the cards and delineate a verse you have memorized or start on a new verse. Many times I put little clues on the other side to jog my memory to see if I can remember the verse without finding at the actual words.
In college, using verse cards was a huge help for remembering Bible memory verses. I loved the Navigator Topical Memory law and was able to memorize countless Bible verses. With age the memory migrates from a few leaks to a sieve! There is why the third part of this law is so essential.
Learn Memory Verses Part #2 - Music
Ever had that tune that you could not get out of your head? For some presuppose our brains can recall music and the connected words more indeed than pure facts. (I am sure there is some scientific presuppose for this but for now we will simply take advantage of this tendency.)
There are some things we have learned to music. To this day I have to go through the alphabet song to remember whether 'w' is before or after 'u.' I have a friend who put the list of prepositions to a cute tune and have to sing through the song when helping my son recognize prepositional phrases.
You can apply the same technique to learning Bible verses. Creating catchy tunes for distinct passages of Scripture can provide an easier way to learn verses. (It is indeed more enjoyable as well.) If you article these tunes you can upload them and listen to them on your beloved Mp3 player. You can sing along while doing chores or in the car running errands.
Learn Memory Verses Part #3 - Systematic Review
Most accomplishments in life need effort. Memorizing Bible verses is no different. It will take some time and discipline to memorize Scripture. I would recommend that you set a goal of how many verses you want to learn in a week.
If you commit to even just 10 minutes a day, you will be amazed at how quickly you will learn the verses. As I mentioned earlier, keep the verse cards with you and delineate whenever you have a spare minute.
This three part law provides an easy way to memorize Bible verses. The verse cards are a great visual prompter to the verse as well as a reminder of the words and the reference. The tunes enable us to join together the words with the song and make it easier to memorize as well as faster recall.
Setting apart time each day to delineate memorized verses and learn new verses increases the whole of Scripture we have right at our fingertips.
